“And ah for a man to arise in me,
That the man I am may cease to be!”
— Alfred Lord Tennyson
Paul gave us the keys to this very thing happening in our lives…
“For if you live according to the flesh you will die, but if by the Spirit you put to death the deeds of the body, you will live” (Romans 8:13).
“I have been crucified with Christ. It is no longer I who live, but Christ who lives in me. And the life I now live in the flesh I live by faith in the Son of God, who loved me and gave himself for me” (Galatians 2:20)
“And those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the flesh with its passions and desires” (Galatians 5:24).
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old has passed away; behold, the new has come” (2 Corinthians 5:17).
This process takes place by conversion to Christ by believing the message of the gospel, repenting of sins, confessing Jesus as Lord and being immersed for the remission of sins. Paul tells us that we rise to walk in newness of life (Romans 6:3-4).
This is the beginning of the new person who walks in the steps of Christ, striving for maturity (1 Peter 2:21). We add daily the graces found in 2 Peter 1:5-9.
This new man will be renewed day by day growing stronger as you grow closer to the Lord (2 Co 4:16).
